Last year we celebrated TWOTHIRDS’ tenth birthday! A decade of being the little blue brand by the sea. So it’s no surprise that we find ourselves looking back on this milestone to see what changed in 2020. 

How to spend Christmas with those who love the sea? Some enjoy jumping into freezing cold waves in festive costumes, while others prefer a somewhat cosier option. There are both types of ocean-lovers at TWOTHIRDS, so it seemed only fair to meet in the middle for our new movie!

With the help of our customers, we raised 20,703 euros for WWF Spain during Blue Week. We’re blown away and humbled by the results, which show that more and more people are believing in us and our mission. When we all move together, we stand to make waves. We’re grateful to have a community that does.

Organic farms are filled with small explosions of colour. The deep red of the cherries, the purple or bright orange of the carrots among the umber of the earth. Everywhere you look, vitality beams back, with fertile land giving rise to flavorful produce. Here, you can find the roots of change.

Imagine forests breaking onto beaches that slope into water the colour of crystal. Vintage beach chairs line up along the bay while not so far offshore, seals and porpoise roam. Now picture a house overlooking the bay and a man sitting by his window like a patient lighthouse keeper, devoted to his work. This is Sierksdorf, Germany and the man is Lutz Schwenke’s grandfather.

Plastic doesn’t have to mean pollution. A shocking amount enters the water every year but if we recycle the material, it can help us feel part of the ocean. This is the story of how plastic became a problem, and how bottles become bikinis.

When a blue whale is underwater, its skin seems to merge with the sea it lives in. Only the rings of light dancing over its back allow us to see an animal of impossible proportions. As soon as the whale begins to turn itself towards the seafloor and flicks its tail up, the rest of its body will vanish into the blue. It will be a creature between two worlds, not quite here and not quite there until only the trace of its tail is left behind it like an echo. Whales are works of art.

In February, TWOTHIRDS travelled to Morocco. The name is packed with potential, meaning “where the sun sets” in the native Arabic, and to surfers, signposting some of the world’s best lineups. Even so, Morocco still divides opinion. Everybody who had been there already either raved about it, or warned us to stay clear. This made us even more curious as to what we’d find. 

Our team at TWOTHIRDS is not only producing sustainable clothing for you, but also stands completely behind the whole idea and science that for example, the “Fridays for Future” movement and scientists all over the world represent.

Ever since Karl Mackie joined us as a Sentinel in 2012, I had the feeling that I needed to visit Cornwall again for old times sake and to discover it through different eyes.

An introduction to Freediving with our Sentinel Concha Rossler & Ruth Osborn. What is Freediving? Freediving is diving into deep waters on one breath and without any breathing apparatus. Freedivers use inward control, discipline and power to descend into the ocean while holding their breath until they resurface.

After Germany’s reunification the sea really started to flourish and soon we saw more and more lights at the other side of our bay and now you can find beautiful sea villages all along its coastline.
