Summer Notes - Fornells (Begur)
Camino de Ronda: Aiguablava - Fornells - Platja Fonda - Fornells - Aiguablava

Costa Brava is considered to be one of the most beautiful coast of Cataluña.
Pine trees, cliffs, hidden coves, crystalline water and steep coast make this area
a very special and unique place in Spain.

In the south area of Begur, you can find Platja Fonda, located a few steps away from the famous Cap de Begur. You will be impressed by the thick and dark sand of this hidden beach and the crystal clear water.
Platja Fonda managed to keep its primitive purity
that you can rarely find in any other places of Costa Brava.

Natural Pool Es Cau: a little piece of paradise in between playa Fonda and playa Fornells.
It is not a real natural pool made of water from the sea but it does not matter, it is almost one. It is one of the most beautiful corners of the Costa Brava and we all agree with that.
You can find that unique place between the small port of Fornells and Platja Fonda.
This natural rocky pool, at the seashore, was built in 1967 with legal permissions
for the residential area of Es Cau and unique use of its residents.
More towards the south of the coast, we can find the small coves of Fornells, which, according to the legend, was named “Costa Brava”. The Camino de Ronda (road of Ronda) is linking all the small coves that make up the area of Fornells: Cala de n'Estasia, cala d'en Malaret and Puerto de Esclanyà. This port was used for the boarding of fish, years ago and has now an open access to the public.

These coves share the same distinctive features: thick sand but you can relax and sunbathe.
The water is crystal clear!
The last beach belonging to Begur, located in the south of Fornells, is the cosy beach of Aiguablava. Famous for its transparent water, shallow depth and thin and light sand.

GASTRONOMY
The traditional dish from the area, without any doubts, is the PEIX DE ROCA, known for being tastier and of high quality.  Each spring, they celebrate the gastronomy of the area. A selection of restaurants offers special tasting menu with dishes made of PEIX DE ROCA. In Begur, the gastronomy reflects the natural wealth of an area opened to the Mediterranean sea, where you can find any kind of fish and seafood but also a selection of fruits and vegetables.
