3 Outstanding Rain Jackets For Women

In many nordic countries they’ll tell you there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. This famous phrase will likely be used while the rain is pelting down, the thermometer is frozen, and you’re soaked from head to foot. But it’s true: better clothing will make those climatic conditions feel that little bit more favourable!

That’s why we create certain women’s styles that can withstand the elements. Raincoats are an autumn-winter essential in many colder countries, and at TWOTHIRDS they double-up as style companions too.

To help build some excitement for jacket season, we’re offering you a taster of the rain jackets for women that we currently have in stock. There are more on the way, so be sure you subscribe to our newsletter to be notified when the news breaks!

Top rain jackets for women usually involve technical details like coatings, linings, layers, and hoods. Rain coats can also be on the lighter side, simply providing enough cover to ensure you make it to the shops and back without getting drenched. What makes our rain jackets extra special is that every detail is sustainable. We’ve made outerwear one of our priorities in sourcing the best ecological materials available, to the point where many of them are completely vegan too.

Feature Spotlight: Teflon EcoElite™

All the rain jackets featured are treated with Teflon EcoElite™. This is a naturally sourced, plant-based finish that resists stains and repels water without polluting the planet. It is an important alternative to PFAS based water repellent coatings that contain chemicals which never break down in nature and can produce severe illnesses in the textile workers who handle them. EcoElite™ doesn’t compromise rain jacket quality either: as well as being more environmentally and human friendly, it’s 3x more durable than other non-fluorinated finishes. We’re super happy to have found EcoElite™ as it keeps our rain jackets dry, ethical and eco-friendly

Panay did so well last autumn that we had to bring it back for some more ocean love! A beautiful deep green (or black!) organic cotton twill is finished with the innovative Teflon EcoElite™ coating. Inside the rain jacket you’ll find a cosy sherpa fleece made from eco-friendly recycled polyester that finds a new look for plastic bottles. The design is topped off with three snap button pockets - two diagonally cut pockets on the front for cold hands, one internal pocket for practical purposes.

A deep hood, snap buttons, and Teflon EcoElite™ finish make this lightweight jacket for women an excellent choice for milder climates. If it rains, you’re covered. If it doesn’t, you’re turning heads with a beautiful pink clay colour that lights up those dreary days. Button-up cuffs and an elliptical hem make things just that little bit more stylish. A rain jacket for all days.

The Parka you can count on. A warm sherpa fleece lining is overlaid with organic cotton twill, which features two-way zip closure. These zips are an elegant design perk that enable wearers to sit down without causing the raincoat to bulge or crease. Perfect for commuters or cyclists who also want to stay dry. A drawstring tunnel at the waist allows you to fine-tune the fit while hidden cuffs trap the heat in. Yet again, the Teflon EcoElite™ finish keeps users of this rain jacket dry in light showers.

Rain Jacket FAQs

Rain jackets are true investment pieces that you’ll use for years and years, so it’s normal that you’d have questions before (and after) you buy. Here are a few of the most common.

How to wash a rain jacket?

Rain jackets don’t need to be washed very often. Rather, it’s better to spot clean them using detergent and a soft cloth, in a gentle circular motion.

If you do feel the need to give your raincoat a wash, follow these steps:

  1. Empty all pockets. Really dig around to make sure nothing is left in the pockets.
  2. Zip the jacket up to the top. This prevents snagging or zip breakage.
  3. Brush off any visible dirt. So that it can’t bed-in during the wash.
  4. Use a mild, eco, or rain jacket detergent. Anything else could damage the finishing!
  5. Delicate cycle only. This will protect eco-friendly fabrics.
  6. No bleach. Goes without saying…
  7. Start the wash!

How to get stains out of a rain jacket?

The good news is that if your rain jacket comes with a repellent finish, it will already resist staining. In that case, you’ll only need to treat the affected area to a quick wash with a sponge or soft brush to lift any potential stains out. If, on the other hand, the rain jacket doesn’t have a water repellent finish - or if the stain is particularly tough - you can try a mixture of water and vinegar.

How to wash a teflon jacket?

Please always follow the care label instructions that come with your rain jacket. Don’t dry clean water-repellent jackets, wash them on a low temperature (maximum 30 degrees) and air dry for best results. Teflon EcoElite™ water-repellent finish is said to last for more than 30 washes.
