Back to the roots

More or less 8 years ago, we passed on our apartment in Hamburg to my brother, totally overloaded a moving van with our furniture and set out to make our dream come true in the Basque Country. The idea was to find a home for us and our Brand TWOTHIRDS. A place where you live and breath the Ocean everyday.

8 years later, 3 of which we have lived in the Basque Country, we decided to return to this beautiful part of earth. We again overloaded a Van, this time with our new Fall/Winter Collection 2018/19 and left Barcelona heading North. The trip from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic has never stopped fascinating me. From light blue waters, lemon and olive trees, to the dusty deserts of Zaragoza, entering the shire, the green Mountains of the Basque Country being rewarded with deep blue ocean and foamy waves at the very end. Probably one of the most dramatic landscape changes, one can experience in a five hour car ride in Europe.

We were staying in a typical basque cottage in the area of Biarritz. I always loved the way how the french culture blends in with the basque identity and when you cross the border to Spain, you still feel the Basque way of live, yet mixed with the Spanish culture. I could spend all day driving back and forth.

My favourite place in the basque country is the little coastal village Guethary. An absolute must if you are around. After surfing the big wave ‘Parlementia with a gun or longboard you can enjoy the local cuisine in legendary places, like Cafe/Hotel, Le Madrid or at the ocean view restaurant Heteroclito.

We met our Sentinel Cedric Bihr, who has recently moved from New York to Guethary. We were amazed that he has opened an own organic and regional food store right at the entrance of the village together with his Japanese wife Ai. Both looking for a slower life. Go and visit this little oasis called Yaoya.
