The Pre-Order System

The Pre-Order System

Pre-order

Overproduction and throwing away of unused clothes and fabrics is clearly an under addressed issue in the fashion industry. Honestly, it is unknown, how much dead stock arises every year. Some estimate, that in some big retail chains, about 10% of the garments are not sold, leading to enormous amounts of clothes lying around. Of course, this implies wasted fabric, dyes, environmental impacts and so on.

There are some companies who try to use this dead stock or unused fabrics and create new clothes out of them.

We go in a different direction: we prevent this to happen.

Pre-order

Through our Pre-Order system, we can estimate how many pieces we are going to sell from one product: we therefore produce, what we sell. This does not only lead to higher resource efficiency and does prevent senseless raw material waste, it also pays off literally in the end: creating less waste materials leads to less costs per produced garments, resulting in lower production costs per garment.

These savings are partly forwarded to our customers - so that everybody profits from this: the environment, we and you (woohoo - another classical win-win).

If you have questions about this system, don’t hesitate to contact sustainability@twothirds.com.

Quality

Quality

Quality

Fast fashion is - as its name already suggests - not produced to last. In our opinion, this also disqualifies attempts of parts of the industry to produce a certain number of products more sustainably, e.g. organic cotton.
We think, that garments must have a long and happy life, they must be able to please more than one summer. Our goods are built with love and to last, so please check in advance, if you want to wear it longer than only one season and think before you purchase.
We don’t want to be a contributor to fast fashion. Because we conceive our products as something valuable and because sustainability comes from ‘to sustain’, which applies not only to producing, but also to sustained using.

Shipping

Shipping

Shipping

We ship our goods on behalf of Amazon fulfilment. We know that this looks quite irritating at the beginning, but we try to explain, why this at the moment is a viable option for us: Since we do not sell to retailers and only online, we need to ship a lot of goods. Furthermore, we do want to provide viable shipping across all Europe. Amazon is in these regards a premium provider for us. Since they have logistical centres across Europe, shipping can be done more efficiently. This means for example, that individual goods do not have to be shipped from Spain to Germany and - in case of returning them - back again. Rather, garments are shipped in bulks to a logistical centre in Germany, and from there individual orders are realised. By doing so, we save CO2, a lot of logistical effort and we can place our products closer to where they belong - to you.

We are aware, however, that this is not the perfect solution yet and are working on a long-term shipping method, that also mirrors our social demands.

Packaging

Due to different aspects, we currently decided to ship our products in recycled paper bags. Other options, such as conventional or biodegradable plastics just did not fit to our needs at this time. While it might be obvious, why conventional plastics are not our choice, the case for biodegradable plastics is more complicated: In the end, we decided for not using them, mainly because of one aspect: their recyclability. While paper bags can be, and are being recycled several times, this is normally not the case for biodegradable plastics. They are produced and only used once, and afterwards they are thrown away to biodegrade - which for sure is better than plastics, that are simply thrown to the landfill, releasing poisonous gases among others.

Packaging

Still, as long as there is no better infrastructure allowing the recycling of biodegradable plastics (this is possible, only not feasible yet), we decided to go for recycled and recyclable paper bags as an interim solution. In case that besides paper there is some plastic packaging in your shipping, please note that this is due to packaging being done by Amazon Fulfilment. Unfortunately, we did not yet get to change this circumstance, but trust us - we are working on it! Besides using recycled paper to pack our clothes, we use hangtags only consisting of natural materials.

That is, hangtags are made of recycled paper and cord. No metal, no plastics.
