Clara and Adrian are a couple that belongs to the sea. They can’t fathom living far away from water, so that’s why they decided to start a new life together in Barcelona; near the Mediterranean Sea.

This week we are celebrating our oceans and their protection. The last weeks and months have shown that the world seems to be finally waking up, or at least part of the world, realising that men made climate change is real. 

Republic of Maldives - “Reethi Raajje" ("beautiful Maldives" in Dhivehi, local language) Because we are a the Blue Company and close to the ocean, all our item names come from islands, little and big Jewells in our seas, spread all over our blue planet. 

This story actually starts in 1997. I was spending a school year abroad on the island of Maui, Hawaii and my brother, who was traveling around the world, decided to come for a visit. We were in the water nearly every day and became obsessed with traveling and discovering new waves.

More or less 8 years ago, we passed on our apartment in Hamburg to my brother, totally overloaded a moving van with our furniture and set out to make our dream come true in the Basque Country.

Our Friends from EcoMar are cleaning beaches since nineteen years and have so far cleaned 17,000 meters of coast line with the help of over 2 million children.We have joined forces with them this Black Week to make a difference together with you for a better future and cleaner beaches. 

This year, Joel Tudor’s Vans Duct Tape Invitational Camp; Festival was held in the north of Spain, in Zarautz (Basque Country). The last time it had been held in Spain was during the Salinas Longboard Festival, in Asturias, back in 2011. It’s been a long wait since then, but it was well worth it.   

When I fell in love with a Spanish guy, I didn’t realize that I was also falling in love with a whole country. Living in Spain for the past 6 months, and exploring from misty mountaintops to wild seasides, has shown me just how much one tiny country can hold. As the days get longer, and warmer, I’m hoping to inspire some of your own adventures by sharing some of my favourite places.

Every morning, after reading the avalanche report, we took our split-boards and touring skis, and decided which mountain to climb. For the steepest parts and most exposed slopes, we had to take snow profiles for deciding whether to continue ascending or not (the chamois didn’t care too much about it, though). To learn to read maps according to avalanche reports and to learn to read the profile of the snow for decision making was a very informative and interesting part of the whole thing.

Every Spring the biggest whale of the Mediterranean Sea, the fin whale, is paying us a visit. Last year more than 300 whales were seen along our coast from the end of February until the beginning of June. With the objective of studying the presence of the fin whale in the Catalonian coast and the oceanographic conditions that make it possible, the team of scientists at EDMAKTUB are prepared to start the fifth season of the fin whale project.

Linen and Hemp are very similar when it comes to the cultivation of raw material. Furthermore, the production processes are comparable, making the two fabrics almost equal in their advantages compared to conventional cotton. However, linen is used more widely and is, therefore, more accepted. Additionally, it is also used purely and not primarily in blends (due to different fabric characteristics).

There are those moments in life that are difficult to describe. They are so unlike anything else you’ve experienced that they leave you feeling overwhelmed, emotional and dazed. They are larger than words or pictures can capture and somehow greater than just a physical encounter. These are the important ones.
